Working Together to Reduce the Opportunity of Crime

In Essex we have many local Neighbourhood Watch groups of people working together to help reduce crime and its effects in their neighbourhood. These local  groups work together in 14 district groups, and they, in turn work together as Essex Neighbourhood Watch Association. Like this, they can exchange their best ideas, liaise more easily with the police and other organisations, and buy equipment and literature in the most cost effective way.

Here are the 14 district Neighbourhood Watch Groups that work together within Essex Neighbourhood Watch Association.

The photo to the right shows Clive Stewart, Chairman Essex County Neighbourhood Watch Association thanking Roger Hirst, Essex Police Fire & Crime Commissioner for his generous grant of £11,000 for Neighbourhood Watch this year. This grant will ensure that each Neighbourhood Watch District will have funds to help them raise the profile of Neighbourhood Watch.

The Essex County Neighbourhood Watch Association added a further £50 per District so that £800 will be received by each of the fourteen Neighbourhood Watch Districts.

Included in the £11,000 is a grant of £500 towards the costs of the ECNWA AGM/Conference on Wednesday 11th July at Highwood Hall , Highwood Road, Chelmsford. The invitations and the Agenda will be distributed to each District Co-ordinator in the next few weeks.

The menus on our website will also lead you to crime reports, warnings about recent scams, advice on crime prevention, links to other helpful websites and much more.

Rural Crime Strategy Event

On Thursday 16th December 2017 Essex Police launched a new strategy to help combat rural crime. The full strategy document will soon be on the police wesbsite but here are a two key points:-

A dedicated County wide team for Rural - 5 Officers giving extra patrols and crime prevention advice. This is The Gypsy, Traveller & Rural Engagement Team (GTRET).

In the forseable future each District will also have 1 Officer dedicated to Rural issues.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH IN ESSEX

Neighbourhood Watch is a national movement with nearly 4.0 million members, where people come together to make their communities safer and stronger and encourage people to look out for each other. It involves working with Essex Police, other members of the Community Safety Partnerships in each local authority, voluntary organisations and, most importantly, with people who want to make their neighbourhoods better places to live.It aims to help people to protect themselves and their properties, to reduce crime and the fear of crime, and to reduce incidences of fire and environmental damage. We do this by taking preventative measures, by improving home security and safety awareness, by greater vigilance and by the timely and accurate reporting of incidents. We also aim to foster a community spirit with our neighbours.Essex Neighbourhood Watch Association represents the members and participants in the County of Essex and the unitary authorities in Southend and Thurrock. The Association provides support and a range of services to help in these matters. To achieve this we work with our partners in leading, directing, planning and supporting the future development of Neighbourhood Watch in Essex.
